Juergen,

that really isn't necessary I think,
the first picture of the first realised project would be totally sufficient for me!

I would agree with you, and so would my shop foreman, but right now I can't seam to get anything finished. :'(

You say that like its a bad thing.  ;) ;D Do you have any pictures? I think that would be a great scene  :D

I think it was in a magazine I saw at the newsagency, and no, I didn't think it was a bad thing. "otherwise normal" was meant to express the modeling in this case was not whimsical, not to venture an opinion.

I saw one otherwise fairly normal looking layout that had stormtroopers and droids at the stations.

Hell - some people even have FACES on their engines. Fancy that!

Well Trainboy, you asked. I always say "don't ask the question if you don't want to hear the answer."  ;) :D

A gargoyle would make a nice figure head on the front of a loco. It would be better than a cowcatcher as it would scare the cows off the track :o ::) ???

Emettman, that is interesting. But I am sure that most people, like myself, didn't know that. To us any carved creature that is placed on the roof or precipice of a building is a Gargoyle.

... On the other hand, some of the old Gargoyles were ornaments for downspouts.

[pedant mode]  All gargoyles are downspouts, or otherwise "throated" (it's where we get "gargle" from): without the throat function the proper term for such carvings is "grotesques" [/mode]

Dark and spooky works pretty good at exhibitions.  Here's a spooky little N-trak module that has a spider and could probably use some gargoyles.  :D

B2, I like your idea.  And as a side bonus, it might keep little fingers from walking away with important parts of your layout!  :o

I think that fire breathing Gargoyles would be good. Maybe one or two connected to a butane source with a piezoelectric igniter. On the other hand, some of the old Gargoyles were ornaments for downspouts. Perhaps place the downspout Gargoyles above the fire breathing Gargoyles so that when the FBGs go off the DSG's put them out. - B2

G'day TG111

If you ever take the layout to an exhibition being " dark and scary " is a bonus as you don't need any extra lighting !

Cheers
